Marta Roberts, LNFA, MS, CDP
CEO/ Care Consultant/ Blog Contributor
Marta Maley Roberts, MS, NFA, CDP, began her career in working with seniors as a child volunteer. After her grandfather’s home was destroyed by a hurricane, her parents moved him to the Dallas area where he settled in a nursing facility. She spent hours of her free time visiting at the center, playing dominos and cards with her grandfather and his new-found friends, painting ladies’ fingernails, removing hair curlers in the salon, and assisting in activities. As time went by, she acquired a Bachelors degree in Long Term Care Administration from UT/Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and launched a 20+ year career in operating nursing facilities. Additionally, she had the opportunity to operate assisted livings and memory care operations. She gained knowledge in working with support services- home health agencies, hospice, medical specialists in psychology and psychiatry, adult day care services, and sitter services- during the course of assisting her clients. “Nursing facilities aren’t always the best option for people. They may thrive in a different type of environment.” Through her interactions, Marta came to find that all of her clients, regardless of their physical and mental conditions, the level of support that they received from their families, and their financial capabilities wanted the same outcome- to remain comfortable, vital and in control of their lives. She holds tightly to this concept as she assists others in navigating their options. “While we have to acknowledge that there comes a time where safety and autonomy are at odds, there still can be a best-case scenario.” She perceives her job as assisting in finding it.
As a Certified Dementia Practitioner through NCCDP, Marta has an understanding of the special needs of those with dementia and strives to educate and support families as they navigate the challenges associated with these conditions.
